Nokia rebrands with its head in the cloud

On the eve of Mobile World Congress, Nokia has launched a new logo that is aimed at cutting the Finnish vendor’s ties with its consumer cellphone past and thrusting it into an enterprise future where cloud infrastructure is front and center.

President and CEO of Nokia, Pekka Lundmark, unveiled the rebrand on Sunday in Barcelona. “In order to transform industries as quickly as possible, the underlying networks themselves will need to evolve. The qualities of traditional networking need to integrate the flexibility and scalability of cloud,” Lundmark opined from the stage of the Intercontinental Hotel this weekend.

Company bigwigs are excited by the rebranding. “It’s the first time in 60 years,” Shaun McCarthy, new president of North American sales at Nokia -- formerly of Cisco -- excitedly told Silverlinings from the sidelines of an NTT party on Sunday evening.

As well as building its enterprise business, McCarthy said that Nokia’s North American arm will try to grow its federal business. It’s less than $100 million today and needs to be a billion dollar business, McCarthy stated.
